A Dark And Quiet RoomJust a quiet corner of the Net where I will come to sit and think and write. Maybe you will find that I have something worthwhile to say.
2006 November 02Speaking of Radiohead2006-11-02The music video for “Just” seems quite existential. Lots of angst, you might say. And, in my opinion, surprisingly haunting Fake Plastic Love2006-11-02I refuse to put pictures onto this blog. Blogging is supposed to be about words, and I’m a purist. Or a snob. Or something like that. That goes double for YouTube. But sometimes I actually want to share a picture or a clip from YouTube. So I cheat and just link there. All of that to say: I located the video for “Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead. The first time I heard this, it spoke to me. And, strangely enough, the video actually seemed to enhance the music, which is, in my opinion, a rarity in music videos. This song touched me, because it seemed to express the fakeness and emptiness of so many people around us, particularly in the affluent West. We have to keep up our appearances of being happy, healthy, wealthy, and well-adjusted people. But are we really? Or are we just clinging to our fake plastic love? Does it wear you out, too? —– As a bonus, I’ve included the lyrics. “Fake Plastic Trees” Her green plastic watering can It wears her out, it wears her out She lives with a broken man It wears him out, it wears him out She looks like the real thing It wears me out, it wears me out If I could be who you wanted All the time… Coping through writing2006-11-02Bryan noted to me that I seem to write the most when I am the most stressed. He suggests that maybe I cope with life through writing. Maybe he’s right. |
