While I’m being political…
2007-12-03Read this description of waterboarding:
Waterboarding is a torture technique that simulates drowning in a controlled environment. It consists of immobilizing an individual on his or her back, with the head inclined downward, and pouring water over the face to force the inhalation of water into the lungs. Waterboarding has been used to obtain information, coerce confessions, punish, and intimidate. In contrast to merely submerging the head, waterboarding elicits the gag reflex, and can make the subject believe death is imminent. Waterboarding’s use as a method of torture or means to support interrogation is based on its ability to cause extreme mental distress while possibly creating no lasting physical damage to the subject.
Now, watch this exchange between McCain and Romney.
To answer the objection that we need the information, check out this article.
“We got more information out of a German general with a game of chess or Ping-Pong than they do today, with their torture,” said Henry Kolm, 90
I’m not a McCain partisan (currently I’m waffling between Huckabee and Paul), but in this case, I have to agree with McCain. This isn’t that complicated an issue.
Torture is evil.
Why are we still talking about this?

Excellent. I couldn’t agree more.

I don’t think comparing the muslim extremists to the german nazi’s is a good comparison. We could reach a camaraderie with the German POW’s because we essentially shared a common western, Christian influenced world view. Deep down the values and social mores were similar, no?
The terrorists have a completely different worldview, with little similarities. They hate us with a deep rooted passion. I was going to say they’ve been brainwashed - but I suppose they could say the same about us. I’ll stop at the point that the cultures, Western vs Mid Eastern, Christian vs Muslim, are radically different.
I dunno, I just don’t see the similarities.
