Why I don’t like musicals

I object to musicals on the ground that they violate my sense of reality. In real life, people don’t just suddenly burst into song and dance.

Hi Seth,

Actually, spontaneous outbursts of songs happen often at our home! Perhaps my daughters have seen too many musicals!

It *was* totally cool! And, yeah, a bit silly, too. My favorite part was the security guard. Completely had me going.

There’s a long-running debate near me about my failure to enjoy musicals. It’s not just the spontaneous outbursts of song. Honestly, I can accept this. It’s the spontaneous outburst of coordinated dance and expositional singing that snaps my disbelief suspenders.

…but I don’t really want to rehash the whole debate here.
