More De Profundis news

2006-09-06

Check out this post.

My comment is a lie; I could delete the post if I wanted. However, I wanted to mention something significant.

I didn’t write that post.

Really. Someone actually hacked into my blog and left that post. Now that’s what I call audience participation!

Now, I have my suspicions who did it, but even if I’m wrong, I wanted to mention that, after my heart stopped pounding, I had a good laugh. So, keep up the good work!

Since I don’t want it to be missed….

There’s an actual conversation going on at the “New Experience” post. Please feel free to weigh in.

A public service announcement regarding the News from Orange Street

2006-08-11

It has come to my attention that folks are being confused by The News from Orange Street. Specifically, people are uncertain where the boundary between fact and fiction lies.

On the one hand, this is gratifying, because it means that it’s working. Indeed, if you are wanting to comment or otherwise become part of this game, that is precisely the attitude that I’d like you to have as you post. Play the concerned friends that you actually are. It’ll be fun!

At the same time, I’d like to quote from the “About” page for the game:

This is not a real blog. This is, in fact, a game of imagination that is in process. Everything that you are reading is fiction. That includes all the comments. That’s right. The comments are part of the game, too.

So, please keep this in mind as you read.

Emphasis added.

That’s right. It’s all fiction. “But what about the stuff that’s true?” That’s fiction, too. Trust me. Even true things are false.

Or, in other words, Crystal hasn’t been sick for several days.

I thought that you’d all like to know.

New link category

2006-08-04

I just added a new section to my links: Play by Web games. This is a fairly loose description, including Play by Email and various Java games. These are various boardgames that have been ported to the Web. When a site includes multiple games, I have listed them all, unless the list is too long. Feel free to leave comments with additional sites to add to this list.

Apologies for the small type

2006-07-13

For those who are leaving comments, I’m really sorry about the small type. I plan on changing this as soon as I can. Problem is that doing so requires a bit of template hacking that I haven’t had time to do. In addition, I’ll need to see if I saved the FTP information or if it was lost in my recent computer move….

Trying to crack down on spam

2006-05-10

While I’m honored (I guess) with all the spam comments that are coming my way, I’m starting to get tired of it. So, I’m turning on the “if this is your first comment then it’s moderated” feature. If you are real (and not a cabbage or something), then I will release your comment into the wild, and, hopefully, you won’t be bothered by this moderation thing anymore.

A thoroughly geeky post

2006-05-03

I was told that it’s possible to schedule blog posts to show up. So, I’m actually writing this at 10:34 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2. But, I’m scheduling it to appear….now!

Did it work?

Trying to write more

2006-04-24

I feel like I haven’t been doing a very good job keeping up with this blog. There is a part of me that gives myself a pass, saying that I’m busy living life and therefore I’m not documenting it. But still, I look over my posts recently and there really haven’t been many. So, I’m going to try to do better. To this end, I’m going to start making use of the “Drafts” feature on this blog more. If I have an idea for a blog post, I’ll just scrawl it in a draft. Then I can prod at it when I have a few minutes. Hopefully, in this way, I’ll actually finish more of the blog posts that are bouncing around in my head.

My blog is back!

2006-04-19

Something bad happened to the database that runs this blog, but my gracious host repaired it. Now, it’s all better. Thanks, Bill!

A verse for the blogosphere

2006-04-11

“The more words, the more vanity, and what is the advantage to man?”  (Ecclesiastes 6:11 )

Happy Birthday to…this blog!

2006-04-02

Today, “A Dark and Quiet Room” turns one year old.  That’s right; I’ve been doing this for one year.  I’m not sure if I should be impressed that I’ve kept at it for so long, or if I should feel silly that a year seems like a long time.

And I still blame Bryan.

More template tweaking

2006-03-28

Thanks to my gracious host, I now have my own template. I used my old template as a jumping off point, but now I can massage the look-and-feel of my blog as I wish. Please notice the “Recent Comments” section and the “Pages” section.

I will probably have more tweaks as I go forward.

Play by blog

2006-03-28

I’m thinking that there’s got to be some way to play games via blog. Specifically, I’m thinking that there’s got to be a way to design an interesting game that is played on a blog. In other words, the blog is the game environment. This would be different than using a blog for play-by-mail or some such thing, which probably wouldn’t be all that efficient anyways.

So, I’ll be mulling this over. But, in the meantime, any ideas?

What I like about this new blog software…

2006-03-27

…is that it doesn’t have an extended “Publishing….” screen like Blogspot.  That means I’m more inclined to write another short post after posting something, instead of viewing each post as an extended article.
